Hongni Wu, a mezzo-soprano, was one
of five people to win the 2018 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in
New York this past April. A Professional
Studies degree
candidate at Manhattan School of Music (MSM), she is currently studying with
Joan Patenaude-Yarnell. In the Spring of 2017, she earned her Masters in Music
(Voice) from MSM, having studied with Ashley Putnam, after completing her B.A.
in Voice from Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou, China.
In her brief career, she has
performed the roles of Cenerentola (Rossini: La Cenerentola); Sesto (Mozart: La
Clemenza di Tito; Prince Orlofsky (J. Stauss II: Die Fledermaus); La
Libellule (Ravel: L’Enfant et les
Sortilèges); Carmen (Bizet: Carmen) and Mrs. Umeya (Qingling Song).

After graduating from MSM, she will
join the Royal Opera House’s Jette Parker Young Artist Programme in London for
the next two years.

a brief video that includes her performance as Cenerentola, produced by
Manhattan School of Music in 2018, and to name Hongni Wu as a SPOTLIGHT ARTIST
for Spring 2018. She is an opera star in the making.
