Singer-Songwriter Marisa Monte




Singer-songwriter Marisa Monte, one of Brazil’s most acclaimed stars for over thirty years, is returning to the stage after a hiatus due to the COVID pandemic. She will resume touring in January 2022, and in March, she will launch a U.S. tour. Her new show is based on her twelfth album, Portas (Doors), released in July on her own label, Phonomotor, and distributed by Sony Music. To date, the album has amassed an amazing 30,000,000 streaming plays.

Nelson Motta, a journalist and music producer from Rio, produced Monte’s first album, Marisa Monte, for EMI. It featured songs ranging from “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” to traditional samba, samba-funk and Brazilian rock to the Gershwins’ “Bess, You Is My Woman.” Her debut record sold over 500,000 copies.


In 2000, her album, MemóriasCrônicas e Declarações de Amor (Memories, Chronicles, and Statements of Love), included “Amor I Love You,” which charted at #1 in Brazil. The associated video won Monte one of her seven MTV Video Music Awards.

In 2006, her album Universo ao Meu Redor (Universe Around Me) went double-platinum and earned Monte one of her four Latin Grammy Awards.


On October 22, she received the prestigious Tenco Award for Lifetime Achievement in Songwriting. Past recipients include Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits, and several icons of Brazil (Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque, and Vinicius de Moraes). Monte is Brazil's first female honoree.

Monte's 2022 tour travels across the US from coast-to-coast making ten stops from Ft. Lauderdale to New York and Chicago to Los Angeles and more. Stay Thirsty Magazine is honored to present her video, entitled Calma, from her new album, Portas, that will be featured during her tour.
