Vol. 113 (2022)
By THIRSTY
Elizabeth Waterman is an extraordinary fine art photographer and a woman of compassion and sensitivity. Although her most recent book, MONEYGAME, focuses on one of the seamier sides of society, she brings an unusual and caring perspective to the world of strippers and exotic dancers that humanizes rather than objectifies.
After spending four years of Saturday nights in strip clubs photographing the women who put on the shows every night, she presents a respectful portrait of women who are in fact charismatic athletes that earn their living one dollar at a time by climbing poles and giving lap dances.
In keeping with her larger view of the world, Waterman has donated a portion of the proceeds of MONEYGAME to benefit Sex Workers Outreach Project-USA, a national social justice network dedicated to the fundamental human rights of sex workers and their communities, with a focus on ending violence and stigma through education, community building and advocacy.
